The ONCB/DLO Opium Poppy Observation Trip

The observation on narcotic crop control for drug liaison officers was organized during January 20 - 21, 2003, in Chiang Mai Province. The objectives of the program are:
- To strengthen a good relationship and close cooperation among foreign anti-drug liaison officers, ONCB officers and officer from the other concerning Thai competent authorities.
- To reaffirm Thai Government’s strong determination to eliminate all aspects of the drug problem and to promote a better understanding of narcotics control measures undertaken in Thailand to the international community.
- To identify means and methods of illicit drug control through the discussion, and to exchange views and experiences which will be useful to the narcotics law enforcement task, particularly in anticipating new trends of drug trafficking and drawing up plans and countermeasures.

Mr. Bovorn Ratanaprasit, Vice Governor of Chiang Mai Province, was presided over the opening ceremony of the first day meeting. The first day meeting composed of presentations on “Drug Situation in Thailand,” “Narcotics Crop Control in Thailand” and “the INTERPOL Global Communication System: IGCS.” The second day was the filed observation on opium poppy eradication over Doi Sam Meun site, Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province. The eradication was conducted by The Royal Thai Army. The Second Infantry Battalion Commander, Third Army Area Command, RTA, was presided over the site and delivered a briefing to the group.
