| Declaration of Victory over Drugs
December 3, 2003, H.E. Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra, Prime Minister, along with Cabinet members, Supreme Commander, Royal Thai Army – Royal Thai Navy – Royal Thai Air Force - Commander in Chiefs, Royal Thai Police Commissioner, religious leaders, community leaders, and thousands of Thai people have gathered at Dusit Palace Yard on the declaration of victory over drugs ceremony. The Royal Thai Government has taken serious steps over the drug problems since the beginning of H.E. Thaksin’s administration. Moreover, His Majesty, King Bhumipol had expressed a deep concern on drug problems over the Thai societies on His Majesty Birthday Statement, last year. “The Kingdom’s Unity for Victory over Drugs” is the key concept of this national mission. The Government had made a final ultimatum to all criminals to surrender or leave their drug businesses before the 1st February 2003. Eventually after, over forty thousands of drug pushers have surrendered to the authorities. Over eight thousands drug offenders have been arrested. Over seventy millions ‘Yaba’ tablets have been seized. Over Baht 12 millions of cash has been confiscated. Over five hundred thousands of drug addicts have attended the treatment programs. Ups to now, national drug problems are under control. Over 90% of people were satisfied with the War on Drugs accomplishment, according to an independent survey. As a result, this event was a milestone of Thai history over the Drugs Menace. In addition, this admired moment was to saluted His Majesty forthcoming birthday on December 5, 2003, as well. |
