ONCB/DLO Meeting and Study Trip on narcotics control along Mekong River in Udon Thani, Nong Khai, and Loei Province

 

During 17 -19 January, 2007, ONCB has organized a meeting and study trip on narcotics control along Mekong River in Udon Thani, Nong Khai, and Loei Province. There were totaling of 81 participants form international drugs liaisons, concerned foreign agencies and Royal Thai Authorities. 39 Royal Thai officers from Nong Khai Drugs Control Operation Centre, Nong Khai Provincial Police, Narcotics Suppression Bureau – RTP, Foreign Affairs Division – RTP, Sub-Division 11 - Marine Police, Company 245 - Border Patrol Police, Customs and ONCB attended. 39 drugs liaisons and concerned agencies station in Thailand from 18 embassies; Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America, and 4 international organizations; ICPO - INTERPOL, ILEA - International Law Enforcement Academy, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime enrolled the program. In addition, there were 3 observers from Public Prosecutors Office – Republic of Korea.

The objectives of the program were to review and update current drugs situation and future trend in Thailand to all international drugs liaisons and Thai competent authorities. On the other hand, the field excursion on the illicit drugs trafficking along Mekong River and Northeastern land-route would manifest and reveal operational difficulties and pursuant efforts of Royal Thai authorities in drugs interdiction. Participants had opportunity in sharing and experiencing Thai-Lao joint waterway patrol in Mekong River, Thai-Lao sharing border, along Nong Khai – Vientiane, community-based drug abuse prevention and boat control system for drug interdiction at Ban Jom Jaeng Village, and drugs control along Hueng River. Nonetheless, they also have visited and learned Thai-American cooperation on drugs intelligence and interdiction in the Northeastern of Thailand and in this sub-region at DEA Udon Thani Office. Most of all, world communities and general public will be informed and reinforced on sincere willingness and commitment in fighting against drugs of the Royal Thai Government toward those international delegates.

Observed and attended briefing on community-based drug abuse prevention and boat control system for drug interdiction at Ban Jom Jaeng Village, awarded strong anti-drugs community, Nong Khai Province
Observed and attended briefing on Thai-Lao mutual cooperation on drugs intelligence and interdiction along Mekong River.
