The ONCB/DLO Narcotics Control Meeting and Study Trip in Southern Shan State



The Office of the Narcotics Control Board has organized the ONCB/DLO Narcotics Control Meeting and Study Trip in Chiang Rai and Shan State, Myanmar during February 16 – 17, 2004. The objectives of the trip are:
• To reaffirm the international communities of the Royal Thai Government’s strong determination to combat drug problem, particularly, by using the alternative development approach
• To create better understanding on the narcotics control measures undertaken in Thailand.

It was a great honour to the ONCB and the group that Mom Rajawongse Disnadda Diskul, Secretary-General of Mae Fah Luang Foundation was pleased to be the leader and organizer of this study trip. In Chiang Rai, the group visited and attended briefing at Doi Tung Alternative Development Project under the Royal Patronage and Hall of Opium, Golden Triangle Park, on the first day. In Myanmar, the group visited and attended briefing at Doi 30 and Yaungkha Village Project, Thailand-Myanmar alternative development project in Southern Shan State. The group of Thai authorities led by Mrs. Rasamee Vistaveth, Deputy Secretary-General, NCB. The group of DLO led by Mr. Akira Fujino, UNODC Representative. The groups was warmly welcomed by Mr. Pao Yu Zhang, the top leader of United Wa State Party (UWSP), Pol.Col. Hkam Awng, Joint Secretary, Office of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control, and Wa people.
